I'm trying to do the writing thing more. And get a job, I want and need to get a job that is not acting. Acting doesn't pay very well.

That reminds me of a buddy who was 5' 8" tall and 29 years old. He said he didn't understand why pro football players got paid so much. He said, "I could play pro football. I used to play football in high school. They could pay me a million dollars."

"'Cause that's the only job in football where someone your size could play and not get crushed like a bug on the first day. Well, that or waterboy, but waterboy doesn't pay."

Yea, Hollywood has it's superstars. And pro sports has its superstars. And publishing even has its superstars. But dang... tryin' to become a superstar is a long shot.

And acting is bad for this because not only do you have to be good, you have to have a certain amount of luck.

The whole industry is flooded, everyone wants in, so if you want to succede you have to be good, and the right people need to see you being good, and then they have to consider you out of hundreds of other people who are often just as good as you.

And then after all that, if you get a job, it will usually be a small role for which you don't get paid much. But you have to do it so you can build a resume. And then it's the same deal for your next role, even if now that you have the previous one under your belt, there are still hundreds of people with more experience.

After all is said and done it usually just comes down to whether you made an impression or not, and how much you look like what they're looking for. Meaning, do you match the physical description of the character. That's not as important now though, what with independant films becoming more popular, they don't need the best looking people all the time, and will in fact go for people with a more interesting physical look.

Of course character actors are still the ones getting all the steady work. These are the actors you see in everything, but can never remember their names.
